Decal Design

True decals, occasionally refered to as transfers, are actually plastic, ceramic, or cloth paper items that are attached to a different object with the support of water or heat. Almost all auto decals are actually vinyl stickers with an adhesive final layer. They are most often designed with a computer along with a vinyl cutting machine to create exact and precise designs and cut outs.

Car Decal Facts

Decal comes from the word decalcomania (a technique in moving prints and engravings to another surface). It was invented in England around 1850. Mania was attached to the word following the decal hysteria of the end of the 1800s believe it or not. Transfers or decals are often placed on hot rods, cars, and models. Most Government vehicles will use them as well. Laws require every fire and law enforcement vehicle in America to display decals indicating what part of the Government they work for.
